In case you’ve missed it, Tanjong Pagar Town Council’s 2023 Sustainability Report is now available!

Our commitment to incorporating environmental responsibility and sustainability into our operations and communities has grown stronger than ever this year. It is with great pride and honour that we share our green successes for our previous productive year.

As green advocates, our guiding sustainability blueprint is anchored to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). TPTC is devoted to participating in this global initiative to ensure safe spaces in our towns.

To actualise our sustainability targets, we’ve created a framework to build eco-conscious homes, kind, inclusive communities, and smart, well-ruled towns at Our Tanjong Pagar.

We invite you to read along and celebrate with us as we review the critical projects and programs we’ve sewn up to achieve every goal in our sustainability framework in 2023!

Creating Green and Sustainable Homes

From energy efficiency efforts to water and waste management initiatives–progress starts at our homes, particularly in the simple things we do.

Where we live and carry on with our daily survival tasks is the breeding ground for finding opportunities to act better towards our environment. At TPTC, we are big on eco-friendly programmes, paving the way for the residents’ improved quality of life inside and outside their homes.

Our projects focus on preserving a high-quality living environment for Tanjong Pagar. The activities we have resulted in favourable outcomes that don’t just help the people, but also the Earth. Here are some pivotal ventures we have been busy with for the past year.

On Energy-Efficiency & Renewables

Solar Nova 6 & 7

The 26.5 Mwp solar capacity can power 6,600 flats after its completion in 2025, reducing annual carbon emissions. Net-zero energy consumption will be achieved in common areas.

LED Smart Lighting

Since 2015, we’ve replaced 200,000 LED lamps and installed 50,000  motion sensors, which helped to reduce annual electricity consumption by up to 30 million kWh.

Elevator Energy Regeneration System (EERS) Replacement

This initiative decreased approximately 20% of energy consumption for 37 lifts compared to conventional lifts.

Water pumps

We’ve made an effort to replace 258 energy-efficient transfer pumps and 176 energy-efficient booster pumps. The said pumps consume 5% less energy compared to conventional ones.

Light Emitting Surface (LES) Block Signage

We’ve adopted LES Block signage to reduce 80% of energy consumption (compared to fluorescent-lit block signs)

On Waste & Water Management

E-Waste Management System: Electronic Waste Disposal

We have placed 86 bins, conducted quarterly e-drives and implemented TPTC’s bulky e-waste removal service–all of which allowed 124.5 tonnes of e-waste to be collected.

Textile Recycling Bins

Since May 22, TPTC has placed 21 bins across six divisions. The collection drives successfully facilitated the collection of 80.7 tonnes of textiles.

Food Digester

The food digester at Redhill Food Centre has processed 14.3 tonnes of food waste in the reported period. It processes about 1,600kg of food waste every month.

On Cultivating a Town in Nature

Our Tree Planting Programme

At Our Tanjong Pagar, we have successfully planted 1,000 trees, adding to the currently managed 29,500 trees in the town.

Introduction of 5 Biodiversity Nodes

Effectiveness scores rose by up to 50%, demonstrating the positive impact of biodiversity nodes that serve as havens for natural pollinators.

Thriving as One: How We Foster An Inclusive and Healthy Community

Inclusivity amidst town diversity has always been at the heart of our organisation. We acknowledge the varying needs of our residents, from children to seniors and individuals with physical challenges. We prioritise assembling a space that champions our people’s social, mental, and emotional well-being.

In the spirit of thriving as one, we are delighted to share our efforts to sustain a kind community that everyone needs.

Let’s explore the amenities, activities, and programmes we have led this year to realise our inclusivity dreams for Our Tanjong Pagar.

The Amenities for Inclusivity & Wellness

Our strategic manoeuvre to grow in unison is ingrained in four ideals: safety, functionality, care, and inclusivity.

When we build a new infrastructure, our priority is the town people’s mobility and convenience as they move through our areas.

One of our noteworthy achievements this year is completing the Sport-In-Precinct (SIP) Project, encompassing a multi-generational fitness corner, playground, 200m jogging track, and a multipurpose hall at the Commonwealth Crescent. Today, TPTC oversees 163 fitness corners and manages 132 children’s playgrounds!

We also have our Neighbourhood Renewal Program (NRP), our precinct-level initiative to upgrade residents’ living environment. We’ve set up fitness centres, children’s playgrounds, public toilets, and more in all 6 divisions.

Our Activities for Placemaking & Shared Ownership

TPTC is a fervent advocate for encouraging community engagement and cultivating collective ownership among its residents. It calls for individuals to play an active role in shaping and creating the community.

Aside from the previously mentioned Tree Planting Programme we have launched, our council and over 350 residents have gathered at Blks 1-3 Everton Park to participate in the LKY100 Tree Planting Day. The event commemorates the 100th birth anniversary of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.

Aside from this, residents have also taken part in rambutan and coconut harvesting activities, distributed mint leaf seed papers, participated in SG Clean Day 2023 and attended town halls and dialogue sessions for the ongoing Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP).

Promoting an Empowered & Resilient Workforce

We couldn’t have accomplished these projects without our organisation’s leading drivers of change–Tanjong Pagar Town Council’s workforce!

We strongly recognise not just our staff’s work. But also their welfare, leading to a more cohesive organisation for our communities. From small acts such as organising the annual Buka Puasa and Fruit Parties to arranging outdoor adventures like an 11-kilometre hike at the Dairy Farm–TPTC pushes for developing solid ties within its staff.

The council also values a culture of service excellence. It celebrates the efforts of its team through the Quarterly Staff Awards Program, highlighting outstanding contributions and commitment to serving the residents.

Lastly, an empowered and resilient workgroup should also characterise health in tip-top shape to better serve residents. That’s why TPTC has initiated the Workplace Health Programme, including pre and post-health screening and health coaching.

Standing by a Smart and Well-Governed Township

Echoing transparency and smart governance is also part of achieving sustainability.

We communicate and engage with our stakeholders through the Action for Green Towns initiative, where we publish an annual report card to update residents on our progress on energy efficiency, zero waste, community engagement and a greener environment. In line with this, we’ve also been active on our social media accounts to share milestones and easily connect with our residents.

A smart town also means partaking in innovation and digital transformation. We have decentralised our organisation’s operations, which involved leveraging platforms like GOfm or IEMS, creating site offices, implementing flexible work arrangements, and more.

Meanwhile, we have conducted a 2-day Service Excellence Bootcamp to push for continued service excellence. The activity presses the need for staff to adapt to the growing digitisation in customer service practices.
