Tanjong Pagar Town Council (TPTC) is proud to help host the iLight Festival event at the bustling Discover Tanjong Pagar Community Green.
The iLight Festival ran from 31 May to 23 June, showcasing 17 mesmerising light installations created by 25 talented artists from 11 countries.
This year’s occasion is also bigger than before, extending its footprint beyond Marina Bay, South Beach and Millenia Walk to arrive in Our Tanjong Pagar for the first time.
iLight Singapore, first held in 2010, is considered Asia’s leading sustainable light festival.
This event features environmentally friendly light art installations crafted by Singaporean and international artists. These art pieces aim to encourage the public to embrace sustainable practices in their daily lives.
It is organised by Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), which strives to create an endearing home and vibrant city in partnership with the community via long-term planning and innovation.
iLight is one of URA’s initiatives to drive greater awareness of sustainability issues and promote sustainable lifestyles. After all, our efforts to be a greener society will not succeed unless everybody makes an effort and does their part.
In celebrating iLight’s milestone 10th edition this year, the festival’s organisers invited artists to reimagine the connection between products and waste.
The initiative emphasises the importance of prolonging the lifespan of waste materials and uncovering their untapped potential, hence its theme, Cyclical Nature.
Aligning with this theme, each art piece in this year’s festival uses energy-saving lights and eco-friendly materials to demonstrate the endless potential of everyday objects for redesign, restoration, and repurposing.
In addition to helping host the festival, TPTC also took part in the Switch Off, Turn Up campaign. This is a key component of iLight Singapore 2024, and it champions energy conservation by encouraging building owners, corporates and businesses to power off non-essential lighting and switch air conditioning to more optimal temperatures for the duration of the festival and even beyond.
Doing our part, the Town Council turned off non-essential lighting at several buildings under our management throughout iLight Singapore.
This strategic move aligns with the festival’s objectives and underscores the Town Council’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community teamwork for sustainability.
