Long before most of us begin our day, Our Tanjong Pagar conservancy teams are already hard at work sweeping walkways, maintaining common areas and ensuring our neighbourhoods remain clean, safe and welcoming. Their efforts often take place quietly behind the scenes, yet they play an essential role in making our estates a pleasant place for everyone to live.
On 28 June 2026, residents came together to shine the spotlight on these everyday heroes during a SG Clean Day event at Block 84A Redhill Close. Organised by Tanjong Pagar Town Council, the Sunday morning event brought together more than 150 conservancy workers from across the Town Council, over 30 residents and community partners in a meaningful morning of appreciation, community service and shared responsibility.
Opening the event, Tanjong Pagar Town Council Chairman Mr Melvin Yong thanked residents and volunteers for taking part in the SG Clean Day activities. He shared that simple acts such as participating in a community litter-picking exercise help to create cleaner and more pleasant neighbourhoods for everyone, while reminding residents that keeping our estates clean is a responsibility shared by the entire community.
Honouring Those Who Care for Our Estates Every Day
The highlight of the morning was a special Cleaners’ Appreciation ceremony dedicated to the Town Council’s frontline conservancy teams.
To recognise their invaluable contributions, Chairman Mr Melvin Yong, together with members of the Town Council, presented each conservancy worker with a practical backpack filled with everyday essentials as a token of appreciation. Presented on behalf of the Town Council, residents and guests in attendance, the gift was a heartfelt expression of gratitude for their unwavering dedication and service to the community.
The Cleaners’ Appreciation part of the event was further enriched by the support of our community partners. Representatives from the Built Environment and Urban Trades Employees’ Union (BATU) generously gave up their weekend to engage conservancy workers on welfare initiatives and lifestyle programmes. Singtel representatives were also present, sharing affordable mobile plans tailored to the workers’ needs through a dedicated booth.
Their support added another meaningful touch to the day’s celebrations, reflecting the wider community’s appreciation for the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for our estates.
Supporting Our Frontline Teams Through Innovation
Caring for our conservancy workers also means giving them the right tools to carry out their work safely and efficiently.
During the event, Chairman Mr Melvin Yong also viewed a showcase of advanced cleaning equipment that will soon be rolled out to support the Town Council’s frontline conservancy teams. Designed to enhance daily operations, these innovative tools help workers carry out their duties more efficiently while reducing physical strain, improving workplace safety and supporting their overall well-being, all while maintaining the high standards of cleanliness that residents have come to expect.
By embracing technology alongside the dedication of its frontline workforce, Tanjong Pagar Town Council continues to enhance estate maintenance while supporting the wellbeing of the people who make it possible.
Residents Playing Their Part
Following the Cleaners’ Appreciation ceremony, more than 20 Radin Mas residents joined Chairman Mr Melvin Yong in a litter-picking exercise around the Redhill Close estate.
Working side by side, residents joined Chairman Mr Melvin Yong and Town Council representatives to collect litter around the estate, demonstrating that a clean neighbourhood is built on shared responsibility. While our conservancy workers maintain our estates every day, residents also play an important role through simple acts such as disposing of litter responsibly, recycling where possible and caring for shared spaces.
As we thank our conservancy workers for their unwavering service, Tanjong Pagar Town Council would also like to thank every resident who participated and contributed to the day’s activities.
We hope even more residents will join us at future SG Clean Day events, because every helping hand and every thoughtful action, whether picking up litter, recycling responsibly or caring for our shared spaces, goes a long way towards supporting our frontline cleaning teams. Together, we can continue building Our Tanjong Pagar into a cleaner, greener and more caring neighbourhood for generations to come.
